Confessing the faith

“When the Reformed churches confess the faith through the creeds in public worship, we do not reach around or behind the Reformed confessions. Instead, in the act of confession we reach down deeply to what is below our standards and included in them: the ancient faith confessed by the church. Doing so links us audibly and eloquently with the church of all ages and places.” Mark A. Garcia, “The Lord and Giver of Life,” in Confident of Better Things: Essays Commemorating Seventy-Five Years of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, p. 148.  Published by The Committee for the Historian of the OPC, 2011.
